Thank God for Evolution!

A daring new book is starting to make some serious waves. Written by Rev. Michael Dowd, it's called Thank God for Evolution!: How the Marriage of Science and Religion Will Transform Your Life and Our World. It has already garnered high recommendations from both sides of the religion-versus-science debate: Not only have Five Nobel Prize winners endorsed it, but so has the Vatican!

Here are just some of the interesting endorsement quotes it's received already...

"The science vs. religion debate is over! Must reading for all, including scientists." -- Craig Mello, 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine

"Few if any religious books quote Richard Dawkins in his own terms, or with approval. That this book does both hints at the breadth of audience it will intrigue. Thank God for Evolution! has become my most quoted pastoral resource as a Christian minister. I cannot recommend it too highly." -- Rev. Jason John, Scots Church Adelaide (Presbyterian)

"For Catholics who are worried that evolution has nothing to offer them but random Godlessness, this is the book to get!" -- Chris Corbally, SJ, Vice Director of the Vatican Observatory

"The universe took 13.7 billion years to produce this amazing book. I heartily recommend it." -- John Mather, NASA Chief Scientist, 2006 Nobel Prize in Physics

"If anyone can persuade a monotheist that the science of evolution can enrich his or her faith, I'm betting on Michael Dowd." -- Thomas C. Schelling, 2005 Nobel Prize in Economics

Rev. Michael Dowd, who calls himself an "evolutionary Pentecostal," recently sat down with Faithvine's Dave Brown to explain the purpose and heart behind the book. The video interview will be available soon here on Faithvine. So keep checking back here!

1. God created all in Six Days!
by Amanda R. on 07/09/2008, 11:55 PM

This book is surely a heresy. The Lord created all in Six days, and he created us from earth, yes, but he breathed life into us. Now The years of the evolution "scientists" are totally wrong and estimated. This earth is not millions of years old! Blessings to God for his truth in his word.
2. Heresy..?

Hello, Surely heresy? Do you realize this is the 21st century, not the dark ages? We know that the earth is round (not flat) and that there are parallel universes besides our own and other star systems with their own earth-like worlds. Did God create all of these other worlds in only six days too? I think the "Truth" in God's word you believe in will most likely convict you to hell (if you continue to believe it). And those opinions are exactly why I think mainstream Christianity with old school beliefs are on the out and out. I think we have to merge science with religion for either one of them to survive (my opinion). And I believe that can be progressively done, in a positive way to educate and enlighten (even the Catholic church is figuring that out). You don't educate and enlighten by continuing to tell Genesis myth that God created the world in only six days. Most people know that is a lie now. I applaud Rev. Michael Dowd and others like him from breaking out of the old school religion mentality!
3. Six Days

According to the text in Genesis, God created the world in a literal six days. The Hebrew used for day is followed by a number, and whenever that is done, it means a literal 24 hour period. If God meant for a long period of time, then he could have used other Hebrew words. When you start deeming the Bible false and taking the text out of context to fit to what the World says so that there are no problems, you can start shifting it around to what you want it to say and then you end up with a false religion like the Book of Mormon. When it comes down to science, the evolutionary science has had many accounts of falsified evidence and which then shifts their theory or is deemed irrelevant. I would rather put my trust in a kind and loving God that can do anything, then a theory that promotes survival of the fittest, with death and destruction. And besides, Adam was created as a Man, so God could have created other parts of the earth aged, but none the less there are scientific facts out there that point to an earth that is less than what evolutionary scientist want us to believe.
